The Green Star Award -- For waste reduction and pollution prevention efforts.
|
Welcome and congratulations! You have taken the first step toward achieving a higher environmental standard. Below is the step-by-step process for achieving a Green Star Award.
1. Enroll in the Green Star program and meet with staff.
- Fill out an enrollment form and pay enrollment fees. Fees are based on the size of the organization (based on the number of employees).
- You can enroll online, or print the online enrollment form and send by regular mail.

2. Participate in a site assessment.
- All enrollees can participate in a free site assessment. This is a non-regulatory, non-mandatory visit designed to help your organization with the process of earning a Green Star award.
- Members of the Green Star staff will visit your facility. This is your chance to show off what you've done to earn your Green Star!
- Green Star will provide a report that identifies activities that can be implemented at your facilities and resources to help you do this.

3. Implement the Green Star Standards.
You must complete all ten standards to receive the Green Star Award. These Standards were revised in January 2008 to simplify the process and to incorporate several air quality standards.
4. Submit your Standards Achievement Report and Gain Approval of the Standards Committee.
- When you have implemented all eight standards, submit your achievement report to Green Star.
- Download the Standards Achievement Report and use it to describe the actions you have taken to fulfill each of the standards. Include a description of your business or organization, along with any photographs, tables etc. that help illustrate your accomplishments.
- For a sense of the level of detail required in the standards, review the Sample Green Star Achievement Form.
- Please submit your narrative electronically in MSWord, Adobe PDF, or as text within your e-mail message to info@greenstarinc.org. If using Adobe PDF, please also submit a text-only document in MS Word.
- Mail your double-sided hard copy report to Green Star, 880 H Street, Suite 106, Anchorage, AK 99501.
- Your Standards Achievement Report will be reviewed by the Green Star Standards Committee, whose members are representatives from Green Star Award-winning businesses and organizations. The Committee will approve your application or make suggestions for modifications improvements, if needed.
- Respond to the comments and resubmit your report as necessary.
- If you have not had a site assessment, we will arrange to visit your workplace for a short visit to see your achievements firsthand.

5. Receive your Award!
- Once approved by the Standards Committee, you will receive your award. Formal presentation of the award will be made at the Ancorage Chamber of Commerce Make It Monday Forum or another appropriate forum.
- At this time, you can display the Green Star Award logo and decals in your workplace, include the logo on letterhead or literature, and publicize your achievements using the Green Star name.

6. Maintain your Award.
Every two years, you will receive a recertification asking for updates to contact information and a summary of where your Green Star Standards stand. You will be asked to update Green Star on how you have met the future goals indicated in your original achievement report and to provide new goals for the future. This ensures that your school is always moving forward in its environmental initiatives.
