UDELHOVEN ACHIEVES A GREEN STAR AWARD

Udelhoven Oilfied System Services’ Anchorage facilities recently earned a Green Star Award for their voluntary efforts to protect the environment, above and beyond that required by law. The award was recently presented to Udelhoven at both the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce “Make It Monday” forum, and the Alaska Support Industry Alliance’s annual meeting.

Established on the Kenai Peninsula in 1970, Udelhoven Oilfield System Services, Inc. has served the special needs of general contracting and oil production from Cook Inlet to Prudhoe Bay for over 30 years. During that time they have been guided by founder Jim Udelhoven’s concern for providing quality service by utilizing conscientious, professional managers and crafts people.

This conscientious approach to business is demonstrated in Udelhoven’s desire to assess their waste generation, and reduce their impact on the environment. It is also illustrated by their desire to implement and build upon Green Star’s standards.

A sampling of the initiatives that Udelhoven has instituted in their Anchorage office and around the state includes: a comprehensive recycling program for office and waste materials for items such as: office paper, aluminum cans, corrugated cardboard, fluorescent lamps, Nicad and Alkaline batteries, copper, brass, used oil, and paint cans; providing divided wastebaskets at workstations to improve the ease in which employees can separate recyclables from trash; and ending the use of styrofoam cups in all facilities, replacing them with reusable coffee mugs bearing Udelhoven and Green Star logos.

Encouraging employee involvement is also an integral part of Udelhoven’s approach to supporting their environmental goals. This is done through training classes, employee incentives, and the creation of a poster that has been distributed company-wide, identifying the steps that have been taken to reduce waste and increase energy efficiency.
